How Much Should You Spend on a New Car?
I’ve heard this complaint many times. I am one of those who complain about this too: “The cars are so expensive in Malaysia.”Well, to what extend the high pricing of consumers vehicles in Malaysia? Let me first tell you my experience chatting with an American over breakfast. This happened on 28th July 2012. In the beautiful morning, I drove 10 miles to Portland, Oregon to meet Noah Brockman, a business coach who had just helped me on my online project called Founder Method, which is a membership site providing guidance to Malaysia entrepreneurs. We sat down in a fine restaurant. We shared information on a lot of stuff and eventually we got to the point of discussing the difference of lifestyle standard between Malaysians and Americans.“For a Honda Civic, how much do you think I pay for installment every month?” I asked. I sold this car before I moved to stay in the USA for 12 months.“About RM1500?”, Noah took a guess.“Wow, how do you know? I paid RM1,425 every month. It’s pretty close!”“I don’t know about the price in your country, but here, a Honda Civic cost around US$17,000. With zero down payment, it will be around $1,500 to pay it off in one year.” Noah explained his calculation.“Damn! My installment is for a 7-year loan!”, I exclaimed.
Why is a car priced higher here?
Without blaming anyone, let’s see the taxes imposed on the vehicles here before hitting the road. There are import duty, excise duties and sales tax being imposed on cars.
Source: http://www.maa.org.my/info_duty.htmThese taxes are also one of the highest in the world. This makes most foreign cars extremely expensive for the local buyers. These explain why a Honda Civic here cost RM120,000 meanwhile only US$17,000 in USA.
Malaysians pay a lot for cars
It is a commonly known fact that a young fresh graduate might be paying 30-50% of his salary just to own a car that seems like a necessity, especially if you are working in the big cities. For example, if you get the lowest specification Perodua Myvi model (manual 1.3 liter, solid colour) priced at RM41,924.30 on the road, zero down payment, and 9 years loan repayment, your monthly installment is RM489.51.Source: http://www.autoworld.com.my/v2/tools/loan_payment.aspNow add on the petrol, toll fees, parking fees, and maintenance expenses, you’ll most likely spend around RM800 per month just because you own this car. For a fresh graduate earning RM2,000 a month, RM800 is 40% of your salary.Don’t sweat. I’ll be giving you some suggestions below in order not to overspend on cars. Since we can’t change the National Automotive Policy on our own, the logical thing to do is to play within the rules. There are many ways to spend less on car including not to get a new one, or not to own one at all. Either way, it involves living below your means. Now let’s get to the question we are discussing on this article – how much should you spend on a new car?
How do you know if you can afford a new car?
The answer is the 20/4/10 rule. Michael Kling at Wise Bread (personal finance blog) shares this easy-to-remember rule:Put down at least 20%Finance the vehicle for no more than four yearsKeep total monthly vehicle expense — including principal, interest, and insurance — under 10% of gross incomeApparently, Michael is living in the USA and he is talking about a different living standard. But the principles hold true for us who are living in Malaysia. If cars are expensive, it simply means we should get cheaper options. If you are following these rules, before buying a Myvi, first you got to have at least 20% down payment ready in your bank account, which is about RM8,400.Secondly, by financing the remaining 80% on a 4 years hire-purchase loan, you’ll be paying RM779.79 per month.According to the third rule, you got to keep your total monthly vehicle expense under 10%. By excluding the maintenance, petrol, toll and parking expenses, you got be earning around RM8,000 a month in order to afford a new Myvi.Okay. I know this is kind of hard to swallow. How many years do you need to climb the corporate ladder in order to get to the income level of RM8,000 per month? Some people take as long as 10 years to get there.
The millionaire next door is driving a Myvi
The truth is that there are many frugal people driving a Myvi in Malaysia. I’ve heard a story from my friend, Lee, who is a top level manager of a property development project in Penang. He told me that a middle-age man drove a Myvi to his office. That guy went in wearing short pants, and bought 8 units of RM400k/unit properties in one shot! You see, even the millionaire next door is driving a Myvi.So if you are not earning more than RM8,000 a month but drive a car as good as Myvi or even better, you really need to take a close look at your finances. Are you heading towards the right direction?
Car Loan vs Housing Loan Psychology
After paying many years on both car loan and property loans, here is the main difference I realized – it is totally the opposite feeling when you pay the nth installment. The feeling of paying a car loan1st installment – “I pay so little to enjoy such a nice ride! Totally worth it.”50th installment – “When is the final payment going to come? I am tired of this old car.”The feeling of paying a housing loan1st installment – “It is going to take forever to pay off this mortgage.”50th installment – “Oh… I am paying so little to enjoy this expensive home.”The answer is obvious – don’t buy a car you can’t afford. Until the time you can really afford your dream car according to the 20/4/10 rule, you might be interested in one of the money tips I shared in my bestselling book Top Money Tips for Malaysians – How to get your first car free. Top 5 Facebook Mistakes Biz Owners Make

Top 5 Facebook Mistakes Business Owners Make
by Tim Parker
Promoting your business with Facebook isn't as easy as creating a page and posting your sales. If you want to use Facebook to the fullest, be sure you aren't making one of these five common mistakes.
So, you did what you’re supposed to do and got yourself a Facebook page for your business. That’s a great first step. Then, you set up the page, included some good-looking graphics, started posting, and gained a few followers. After a whole lot of rinse and repeat, you’re seeing the same problem as so many other business owners: You’re putting a whole lot of time into it but not seeing much in the way of results. It might be that you’re making some of these five mistakes.
You’re Asking Instead of GivingDo you go to Facebook anxiously hoping to see a bunch of ads and specials? Very few people would answer, “yes” to that question but if that’s how you’re using your page, don’t expect people to respond.Don’t take the social out of social media. People use Facebook to connect with others and consume information that’s valuable to them - all for free.If you run a bakery, Facebook is the perfect place to post a cookie recipe. If you repair mobile devices, post a review of a new product or little known tips and tricks on its operation. If you gear the bulk of your content toward giving to your customers, you can throw in an occasional sales announcement.
Related: 7 Reasons People Aren’t Engaging With Your Business on Facebook
You Aren’t Using the AppsLook on the right side of your page just below your big image at the top. Those boxes are areas to install apps. There are apps to link your Twitter or YouTube page or you can create custom pages using HTML. A whole host of other features can transform your Facebook page into a feature-rich experience much like your website. If you’re not as tech-savvy as you would like, you might need help with this task but increasingly pages that use the apps to their advantage are finding better engagement rates. Before you decide that this is too techy for you to figure out, click on one of the app boxes and explore. Some of the apps are easy to use.
It’s All Text
Long before images and videos were easy to make, it was all about text but those days are over. Text is still important but people looking at your posts don’t want just to read your words, they want to see and hear what’s going on with your business through other media.Make a video. Your social media audience doesn’t care if it’s cinematic quality. They’re fine with a candid video and from time to time, something a little nicer.Post some images. You don’t have to be an amazing photographer. Take a picture of an event, something being made at your facility, or something else that fits your business.Your Posts Are Too LongSave all of those words for your blog. A Facebook post should be just long enough to say what you need to say. That means a couple of lines at the most. Check out your Facebook news feed. Have you seen those posts that say “see more”? Never let a post get so long that a reader has to “click to see more.”It doesn’t have to be as short as your Twitter posts but remember that your readers are skimming your content. They aren’t going to take the time to read many words and there’s a better than average chance that they won’t leave their news feed. You only have a few words to make a big impact.
You Aren’t Paying
To what extent this is true is the subject of much debate but what is becoming increasingly clear is that being noticed on Facebook means paying to get your page and its content in front of more eyes. Those big businesses that seem to have Facebook figured out are paying. The good news is that you don’t need to have a multimillion-dollar budget to get started. You could “boost” a single post or promote your page. There are different targeting options so your page is in front of the right audience and you can start with as little as $5 per day or a fixed amount per post. You can read more about promotion in the help section of Facebook.
Bottom Line
There are many businesses just like yours on Facebook and they set up a presence to take advantage of the free advertising that comes with social media. If you did the same thing, change your way of thinking. Set out to give something to your customers. Make it valuable—something they can only find on your page, and give it away free. If you see that it’s getting positive feedback, pay to promote it and drive more people to your page.Repeat all or some of these tips and you will see your page begin to give back to you.

How to Get Your Business Found Online
by Ellen Williams, Regional Development Director, Constant Contact
How do customers find your business when they're looking for the kind of product or service you sell? More often than not, they look to online search engines. Here's how you can be sure your business shows up in their search results.
To get new customers in the door, your business has to be able to be found by consumers. This used to be done through physical directories, like the Yellow Pages. Needed a plumber? You’d just leaf through the directory to find one in your area. Looking for a restaurant address? Out came the book again. This is no longer the case—the ways consumers find new businesses has changed a lot in recent years. Now when looking for local business information consumers turn to the internet, using their smartphone, tablet, laptop, or whatever device is most accessible. In addition to search engines like Google or Bing, consumers are using city guides like Citysearch, review sites like Yelp, and mobile apps like Foursquare to discover new businesses. This is great news because there are now even more ways for new customers to find you. But it also creates a bit of a problem: there are now more places for you to manage. Many of these listings are automatically generated and can often contain incorrect or out-of-date information. This incorrect or out-of-date information is not the first impression you want someone to have of your business. That’s why it’s so important to be in control of your online listings.
Here are 6 ways to do it:
1. Identify your industry’s hot spotsTake the time to identify the places that your target audience is turning to when searching for businesses similar to yours. The best way to do this is to search for your business on a site like Google and see what type of results show up. Be on the lookout for any publishers that specialize in your particular industry, as they will offer the biggest opportunity to reach your next great customer. Once you have an inventory of the information that’s out there, you can start to take steps to control it.
2. Claim your listingsA lot of the top publishers will give you the opportunity to “claim” your listings. This is something all businesses should take advantage of. Claiming your listings lets you take control of the information that people are finding on these sites. You can manually update contact information, upload photos, and even share updates about specials and promotions, depending on the platform you decide to use.
3. Optimize your website with location informationPublishers like TripAdvisor or UrbanSpoon rely on your websites to populate their platforms.Making sure your contact information is up to date on your own site will help avoid having potential new customers sent to the wrong location.
4. Offer location information to data aggregatorsAs you may suspect, collecting information from across the web and publishing it in a single location is hard work. That’s why many of the top publishers rely on data aggregators to provide relevant information about your brand. While it’s natural to want to be protective of your information online, making basic information like location available to these companies can go a long way in keeping your listings up-to-date.
5. Encourage reviews and recommendations on socialYou may not realize it, but the interactions you have on social media can positively impact your search result rankings. They will improve your chances of getting the highest quality of information in front of potential customers when they’re searching for your business online. Encouraging your fans and followers to share feedback and interact with your business on sites like Yelp or Foursquare will also help ensure the quality of user-generated content.
6. Pay to sponsor listingsJust like you can pay to promote posts on sites like Facebook or Twitter, you can also pay to sponsor your listing on a number of the top listing sites. This is another option you may want to consider after identifying the places where potential customers are most likely to be looking. While this won’t help update information on other sites, it will increase the visibility of your best information on your most important platforms. So there you have it. Updating your businesses info where it is listed across the internet is the first (and most important!) step to ensuring your next great customer is able to find you when they go looking.

Why A students works for C students
http://elitedaily.com/news/world/students-run-world/
We’ll be the first to inform you, if you rely on intelligence alone, your luck will be extremely limited in your pursuit of success. A portion of the members of our team at Elite Daily were not at the top of their class. Despite this, we embody the phrase associated with our site—remaining “young, successful, and established.”
Thus, we are compelled to argue that it is always not those who possess the best grades who will attain a prosperous lifestyle. It is those who possess the ability to combine a cunning intelligence with business savvy attributes who will be the future leaders of tomorrow. There is myriad evidence in popular culture that corroborates our claim. Consider Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and the myriad others who are extremely successful and never completed an undergraduate degree. Ponder the fact that Richard Branson ended his academic career at age 16 and is currently valued at an astounding $4.2 billion.
“School is a place where former A students teach mostly B students to work for C students.”This information, contradictory to the incessantly regurgitated story of those with the most academic prowess rising to the top, made us wonder how much one’s academic performance accurately predicts their future success. There appears to be no direct correlation between the two. This is not to say that your academic abilities are insignificant. We are more so taking a strike at our cookie-cutter academic system that aims to foster the same qualities amongst a wide set of students. Our educational system—particularly high school–does little to foster any skills other than simple rote memorization of generally useless facts.
The American academic system excels in the pursuit of broadening one’s knowledge base, but oftentimes fails to shape the minds of students and sufficiently prepare them to endure real world problems. That is to say, the average A student is well prepared to engage in academic discourse, but it is not guaranteed that he will be adequately prepared for challenges outside the classroom. If you glance at the state of our economy, it is evident that theory does not always translate into reality. Each rising generation faces the issue of whether to take the risk of following the time-tested route of “birth-to-college” or take the oftentimes riskier approach of forging their own path to success. Of course, the most beneficial method of action would be a blissful cohesion of these two roads. It is in fact these individuals who tend to run the world. Bill Gates indeed possessed overwhelming intelligence, performing extraordinarily well academically despite putting forth minimal effort.“A brilliant math student, Gates would blow off his classes to go to ones he hadn’t registered for. He would slack all semester, then cram at the last minute and ace the final.”However, although he was an A student, he did not allow himself to be limited to solely academic pursuits. Gates and one of his partners “agreed the microprocessor was going to change the world,” and mustered up their own version of BASIC, which they sold to Altair without having seen their device.Upon realizing Gates’ dorm room misdeeds, Harvard’s disciplinary board charged him for running a business out of his dorm room, spurring the young Gates “[turn] on, [boot] up and [drop] out.”
It is precisely this foresight that distinguished Gates from the thousands of other vastly intelligent Harvard students around him. He represents the type of forward thinking A students that head our nation’s Fortune 500 companies. What is important to note about Gates is that he defied the confining nature of our school system, which simply trains us to be future employees. The skills bestowed upon us provide little enlightenment in the areas of leadership and innovative thinking. The system does quite well, however, at churning out millions of blue-collar clad, cubicle tethered workers to take command from superiors. We wish to break free from this assimilation. Those who ultimately attain success are not only intelligent, but also critical thinkers in society. It takes a true genius to realize that it is not necessary that one become an expert in every field to flourish.
The greatest minds in business realize that it is simply impossible to possess a mastery of every craft. Thus, it is important to note one’s own weaknesses and seek out others who can compensate for these flaws with relevant strengths. If you are not backed by a wealth of talented individuals it will not only hinder the company’s growth and future innovation, but also further make it difficult to produce efficiently.
Guy Kawasaki concisely conveys this when he reveals, “In the Macintosh Division, we had a saying, “A player hire A players; B players hire C players” — meaning that great people hire great people. On the other hand, mediocre people hire candidates who are not as good as they are, so they can feel superior to them.”The overwhelming majority of the knowledge relevant for workplace success originates from experiences outside the confines of the classroom. It is important to maintain a synergistic relationship between real world experiences and furthering your education.
It is unfortunate that the American school structure can be reduced to a social caste system, labeling individuals as fit or unfit for success based purely on classroom performance rather than a more holistic approach. We encounter examples of C students that have achieved great success because one’s academic performance does not always correlate with one’s intellectual ability. The best student will have the entrepreneurial mindset in combination with the critical thinking and analytical skills a college education can provide. Those who only possess one of the two factors are much less likely to succeed. The successful C student is most likely a “last minute Larry”, possesses excellent communication skills, and is a leader with great charisma. These unmotivated potential A students succeed because while their peers were solely focused on their academics, they were simultaneously learning about the world around them.
It is important to distinguish the student who earns Cs because of untapped talent from individuals whose intellectual capabilities actually tops out at C level work. It is the former that is more likely to attain success, as a complete imbecile is unlikely to possess the knowledge necessary to succeed. While certain professions–such as law and medicine–require a wealth of academic knowledge, other fields provide flexibility for the power of the entrepreneurial spirit. One might need a 3.8 GPA from Wharton to become a successful financial analyst, but a savvy entrepreneur can make millions in the stock market based on his natural analytical skills. Just like with the C students, it is important to distinguish between A students as well. It is imperative to keep in mind that not all A students have attained their grades because of raw academic talent.A significant portion are simply “hard-working idiots”, or people who work relentlessly to feign high intelligence. It is those with high natural intelligence—even when it is not reflected in grades—that will become the leaders of tomorrow. If you can muster a straight-A performance without putting forth much effort, you’re in the best position out of anyone.
One must be capable of combining skills with powerful knowledge to ensure success. Remember, Elite; don’t be so hasty to judge your peers with lower grades—they might just be “lazy geniuses” with untapped potential. The problem is our current system tries to mold the members of our society into being employees for the rest of their lives. When you’re a child, your parents are the boss, and when you’re in school, the professors were considered to be the boss. Those who work extraordinarily hard to achieve the highest grades simply prove they excel at completing tasks; be your own boss and make something out of nothing.

Penipuan melalui telefon

Kemudian kami sambung ... nama encik, Mazidul Akmal Sidik, terlebih dahulu saya ingin membuat semakan nombor kad pengenalan encik, 670319 ..... Betul? Pemilik kad lazimnya berkata 'ya' kerana kami memang dibekalkan semua perincian peribadi bakal mangsa seperti alamat, alamat rumah, nama pewaris dan termasuk nombor kad kredit visa dan mastercard mereka," jelas Elis.
"Kemudian?," celah saya.
Ternyata wanita itu amat petah berkomunikasi.
"Kemudian kita cakap, baiklah encik, sekarang saya ingin mengesahkan nombor kad kredit visa encik.
Setiap telemarketer dimestikan membuat minimum dua sale sehari.
Kebanyakkannya kami attack pengguna kad kredit baru kerana mereka tidak begitu arif mengenai transaksi kad kredit jauh sekali kegiatan sindiket penipuan.
Menurut Elis, pengusaha agensi penipuan sebegitu meraih keuntungan ribuan ringgit setiap sehari.
"Tingkat dua tempat telemarketer beroperasi manakala tingkat satu bekas pejabat kakitangan pentadbiran termasuk bos.
"Semasa awak bekerja, berapakah jumlah sale sehari?," soal saya.
Pekerja lain? Mereka memang seronok.
"Adakah selama waktu bekerja, awak tahu agensi terbabit menipu ramai orang?," tanya saya lagi tanpa jemu.
Saya kemudian mengemukakan soalan berikut.
"Pernah terdengar rungutan di kalangan telemarketer? Mungkin mereka tertekan kerana terpaksa membuat terlalu banyak panggilan
"Pernah! Namun kakitangan pihak pengurusan amat bijak memainkan peranan mereka.
Hanya mereka bersikap lalai sahaja terpedaya," kongsi Elis.
Jika kini tiba-tiba dihubungi telemarketer, apakah respon awak?

FOUND IN THE INTERNET
YB Dr Daroyah Alwi wrote:
Assalam..
Sy nak kongsi very good tips - bg yg terbangun dr tidur utk buang air...... baca ya!
Penting untuk diambil perhatian!!!
Tiga kali (1/2)
Para pakar selalu berpesan:
Setiap individu harus ambil perhatian tentang 3 x 1/2 minit.
Kenapa penting?
Sejurus kita berdiri, otak masih kekurangan aliran darah.
Knapa "3?1/2 minit" amat
penting?
1.Bila terbangun drpd tidur jgn trus turun dri katil, tetapi berbaringlah dulu untuk tempoh 1/2 minit;
2. Duduk di katil utk tempoh
1/2 minit;
Sharing is caring.

KHUTBAH TERAKHIR NABI MUHAMMAD SAW
Khutbah Terakhir Nabi Muhammad SAW

What Students Taught Me About Being a Good Teacher
‘What Students Taught Me About Being a Good Teacher’
Awesome educator Ferial Pearson reveals her secret to classroom success. As told to Suzi Parker.September 10, 2013
"Everything I know about being a good teacher, I learned from my students."If students don’t feel safe, respected and celebrated in your classroom, they really aren’t going to learn much. You can know your material backwards and forwards, but it won’t matter. Everything I know about being a good teacher, I learned from my students.Once I was counseling a student from the Gay Straight Alliance Club. I said, “You are so bright. Why are you failing?” He said he was worried about being shoved down the stairs after class. Now, if you are sitting in a class worried about getting from algebra to English without being shoved down the stairs, if you are worried all the time about what is going to happen to you if someone finds out you’re gay, you can’t study or learn.I think that student saved me as a teacher. That became my number one priority: Students can be whoever they are, and they will be celebrated. They are allowed to bring their cultural capital into the classroom.
For instance, a lot of students have names from other countries, and teachers don’t even try to say their names. Your name is the first part of your identity, and so many students have stories about why they are named what they are. You’ve got to know your students’ names.Teachers will often say they can’t get parents to meetings. A lot of parents don’t feel comfortable in the school building. In some cultures, parents only come to the school if a student is in trouble. I ask, “Are you inviting them for a good reason?” I had a parent who was a poet. I invited her to help the students. She gave them some ideas, read some poems, and the students loved it.
I try to never put down a student’s language or culture. If my students speak African-American slang or are cussing, I talk about code switching. There is a time and place for different languages. I tell them that in this class, you are going to talk like you are onOprah. In the hallway you can talk like you talk at the club.
Instead of them just following rules I create, we sit together and make up a list of behaviors that will make us all feel safe and comfortable—and that includes me. We describe what each rule means and what it means in their cultures. I try not to implement my norms, but there are some non-negotiables, like no violence.I encourage humor with the rules, like make sure you keep your clothes on at all times. Don’t tear your hair out if you are frustrated. Because of these rules, I have never had a problem in the classroom. We have to be responsive to their culture, and technology is their culture. It seems everyone has a cell phone, so I try to use cell phones in the classroom. I use polleverywhere.com, a free web application that allows you to create a survey online, and students can text their answers online. It’s a good way to do a formative assessment. Sometimes we have a competition about who can define a word the fastest. I say, “Okay, go,” and they whip out their phone to see who can find the definition. The first one to get it wins a pack of gum or something.Straight Talk From the Stars of 'TEACH'If they abuse the technology, they lose it. (But I would never take a phone from a student. I saw a teacher beat up once over that.)
Teachers need support. At the College of Education at the University of Nebraska, they have created a brand-new initiative. There are four of us, and we are trying to figure out ways to get teachers in the classroom earlier, with more mentoring and support. I’m an “instructional coach.” A lot of teachers waste time in college, spending money and then realizing that teaching isn’t for them. Now we want them to answer the question before they get out: Is this something I love? Young teachers also really need to know they are not alone, and that schools serve students as a team. It’s easy for a young teacher to burn out and feel overwhelmed if they feel responsible for every aspect of a student’s well-being and academic growth, especially if they have students who are struggling.
The number one thing in teaching is relationships. You have to build relationships with basically everyone you come in contact with—students, other teachers, administrators, parents. If teachers communicate well and often with staff, faculty, parents, and members of the community, they can be culturally responsive and make use of the cultural capital students bring to the classroom. It makes things easier on the teachers, prevents classroom management issues, and empowers students.
Ferial Pearson specializes in urban education in Omaha, Nebraska, which has more Fortune 500 companies than any other U.S. city. But it is also a place with intense poverty and a high number of undocumented immigrants. This semester, Pearson is coaching wanna-be teachers at the College of Education at the University of Nebraska on how to be culturally responsive educators.
Lessons From 18 Years Working With At-Risk Kids
Experienced Teachers Teach Us: Lessons From 18 Years Working With At-Risk Kids
Takepart.com By Suzi Parker

For 18 years Sandra Christenson taught at a continuation school in downtown Los Angeles adjacent to a Greyhound bus terminal. She knows first-hand the trials and tribulations facing at-risk students.“I would often get new kids every week, even if they were bright; who knew if I would see them next year?” Christenson says. Some students at Metropolitan Continuation High School had already seen the inside of jail, some were young parents and many were apathetic about education.Amid this tough environment, she made it her mission to teach English and reading classes in a way that compelled her students to want to learn.
But to accomplish this, she had learning of her own to do. “A student called ‘Monster’ had a heart-to-heart with me my first year teaching at Metro,” Christenson says. “He told me to be stricter. He taught me how to read gang signs and gang graffiti. I learned to learn from my students, and I became a better teacher. They wanted strictness with caring and I changed my style over the years, and it changed all our lives.”At Metropolitan, it was a challenge to help students just find the bravery to read. Most came from families where parents and siblings did not read books at home for pleasure.“My AP English class changed the way students looked at hard work,” she said. “One girl, who had endured sexual abuse, found a way to persevere through her life by using the five hours of reading a night and the Saturday classes as a model of toughness and preparedness. After taking the AP test, she reported her attacker who went to jail as a result.”
Christenson discovered that creating goals for students, inspired them to raise their test scores. She encouraged students and teachers to look at results from other schools and see where Metropolitan ranked. Suddenly, students wanted to get better.“They had never done homework, had never revised,” Christenson said. “I gave them hard deadlines, and students had to stay after school until they were met. We really would hold their feet to the fire. It was transformative for me and my students. Other teachers thought I was crazy, and I should be in another school. But more and more people got on board and the test scores got better.”
Christenson believes teachers must be allowed to bring what they love into the classroom. Her classes followed every election, especially the local ones, and learned about the many sides of the issues. Her students even worked the polls and registered fellow students to vote. Christenson's classes have also followed the stock market, 'buying' stocks, and keeping graphs on their progress.Christenson led opera and theater workshop classes, so her students could attend performances and films of both. She believes, “A teacher opens up the world to her students.”
Two years ago she left Metropolitan when her partner got a job in Sacramento. Christenson now substitute teaches there, and on any given day she could teach kindergarten or fifth graders in any part of the city at any socio-economic level.“I walk into the skins of other teachers now,” she says. “But it has furthered my education and my humility. I learn something everyday. Either I get something great from the teacher or learn something the teacher doesn’t do, but maybe should do. I’m still very dedicated to teaching. If I get a full-time job I’ll go back to it in a minute.”

Terbangun dr tidur utk buang air

Sy nak kongsi very good tips - bg yg terbangun dr tidur utk buang air...... baca ya!
Penting untuk diambil perhatian!!!
Tiga kali (1/2)
Para pakar selalu berpesan:
Setiap individu harus ambil perhatian tentang 3 x 1/2 minit.
Kenapa penting?
Sejurus kita berdiri, otak masih kekurangan aliran darah.
Knapa "3?1/2 minit" amat
penting?
1.Bila terbangun drpd tidur jgn trus turun dri katil, tetapi berbaringlah dulu untuk tempoh 1/2 minit;
2. Duduk di katil utk tempoh
1/2 minit;
Sharing is caring.

Tarikh: November 3, 2013. SINAR HARIAN
Dua minggu lagi cuti sekolah bermula.
A month without sugar
A Month Without Sugar

Life seems sweeter without sweets. Or at least, just as sweet.
If you’d suggested that I’d prefer a life that was pretty much devoid of sweet desserts a year ago, I would have laughed in scorn. I’ve always had a sweet tooth, mostly centered on chocolate but I also love pies and cookies and muffins and ice cream.
But as a part of my Year of Living Without, I gave up sugar in October. And in truth, it was fairly easy (with a few harder spots) because I’d mostly been going without sugar for the previous four months or so.
I found that life is just as fun, as enjoyable, as lovely without all the sugar. It’s not as necessary as I’d thought, not as horrible or lifeless without sugar as I’d anticipated.
I set out on this Year of Living Without to learn about my resistance, but the funny thing is that my resistance seems to be much greater when I’m imagining going without something I think I need, than it is when I actually go without it.
I thought giving up coffee would be incredibly hard, but it wasn’t hard at all (except for a few times when the allure of the smell was strong). I thought going without TV would be hard, but mostly I didn’t miss it. No sitting for more than 30 minutes actually was hard, but not because I missed sitting — only because I really got physically tired (often from running or working out).
So the resistance comes when we imagine the loss, not when we actually experience the loss. At least, that’s what I’ve been finding so far.
In this post, I’ll talk about a few of my thoughts and experiences going without sugar, and then share what I’m giving up in November (hint: it’s one of my hardest challenges yet).
Going Without Sugar
Some of what I learned and experienced in my month without sugar:
In the beginning of the month, I was traveling in Europe. Mostly didn’t miss the sugar, but I was definitely tempted when we found vegan gelato in Italy, then various vegan desserts in Vienna and London. Overall, it wasn’t hard — most of the desserts we passed weren’t vegan, so while they looked tasty, I’m not tempted to eat them (milk and eggs make me think of dead baby animals).
Most days of the month, I had no sweet temptations — if any sweets were around, they were non-vegan candies or desserts, so I didn’t care.
The challenge was easiest when I stay home or only go out to exercise or have tea with a friend. Staying away from restaurants or other people’s houses means no temptations.
Going to a vegan restaurant makes it a bit more challenging, as sometimes the kids have vegan desserts (a vegan chocolate shake was a bit tempting one day) but knowing that I’m not having sugar cuts off the temptation in my mind. So it’s not hard. If I didn’t have the challenge, I’d definitely share in their desserts.
In the middle of the month, I traveled to China — there are many interesting treats there, but mostly ones I can’t eat, so it wasn’t that hard. I think there was some mochi there that I would have loved, but I just didn’t give it much thought.
One day I bought the kids some chocolate chip cookies that would have been very tempting in the old days (just 6 months ago). But now I don’t have as much a taste of it — I think of the harm sugar does to my body, and how it doesn’t make me feel so good afterward, and sugar isn’t as appealing.
Near the end of the month was my son’s birthday. The coconut pancakes I made for breakfast weren’t tempting, nor was the cake and ice cream later. But Eva made some banana chocolate chip muffins that for some reason I craved. I just focused on my delicious Ezekiel cereal with nuts and berries and enjoyed it, so I was fine
One day I ate at both my favorite vegan restaurants in SF (that’s more than I usually eat out), and at lunch my friend ate one of my favorite vegan desserts. It was tempting but not too hard to resist, because I told him in advance that I couldn’t have a single bite. I think telling people about my no-sugar challenge helps me stick to it.
Trick or treating with the kids – I was tempted by Reeses peanut butter cups for some reason, but didn’t have any. Other candies did nothing for me.
When I keep myself busy, sweets aren’t even a thought.
When I’m tired, my willpower seems to drop, and temptations are harder. When I’m tired and hungry, I’m at my weakest.
November: No Computers/Internet Before Noon
So this month I’ve already had a small failure in my challenge. In November, I’m going without computers/Internet before noon (including smartphones, etc.) … except to write.
So I can use my laptop to write a post or work on my novel, but I can’t Google anything or check email or even read on my computer. No reading saved articles from the Internet either.
What will I do instead? I’ll read a novel (working my way through Joyce’s Ulysses right now) and write blog posts or work on my novel.
However, I missed the first day because I forgot. The challenge for the second day was when I really wanted to look things up, which I’m really used to doing immediately by now — instead, I wrote them down to look them up later.
This should be interesting.
